About

History

The summer of 1994 heralded the birth of the evangelical arm of the Sto Nino Parish, a church of unified lay leaders nestled in the heart of   a   peaceful community,   the   Pasig   Green   Park Village.   On   10  April  1994,  the  parish   priest, Fr. Marcel Prudente, sought the help of the leaders of the Pastoral Council and the Family Life Apostolate to determine the feasibility of putting up a preschool.  Immediately, a survey questionnaire was fielded.  Seventy eight percent of the families in the village indicated a ‘yes’ opinion on putting up a catholic preschool education in the parish.  This   inspired Fr. Marcel to organize the core group of the Parish School Project.

The constitution of the core group was by invitation from the parish priest among those who manifested genuine volunteerism in some activities of the church. This initiative stirred up dynamism among volunteer parishioners in rallying behind formal catholic education of the children in the parish.  Upon advice of the parish priest, the FLA coordinator was tasked to schedule the first organizational meeting.  The ones    invited   to   attend   the   meeting   were Dr.   Florentino Lardizabal +  ( president of the Pastoral Council),Dr.   Rosalinda Papa + (FLA coordinator) and Mrs . Lorisma Ureta   (catechist).    Also invited   were   the   educators  Dr. Flordeliza  Reyes, Mrs. Evelyn Garcia,    Dr.   Maura   Fonollera +,   Mrs.  Chalet Ramos +   and       Dr. Aurora Salvosa.

The group met for the first time on 25 May 1994 as an “ad interim” body to draft a name to the parish school project and to elect the officers.  The name Sto Nino Parish School Incorporated (SNPS) was unanimously voted upon by the members of the organizing body.  The following officers were elected:

School Director                                          Rev. Fr. Marcel s. Prudente

Pres & Head, Planning & Development     Dr. Flordeliza C. Reyes

Vice-Pres & Head, Student Affairs             Dr. Rosalinda S. Papa +

Sec & Head, Sch Community Relations     Mrs. Chalita R. Ramos +

Asst. Sec & Head, Formation & Dev’t         Mrs. Evelyn Garcia

Member, Physical Plant & Facilities            Mr. Rogelio B. Degollado

Internal Auditor                                            Mr. Rodolfo S. Miranda

Forthwith, the ad interim buckled down to work on the articles of Incorporation and By-Laws.  Everyone in the core group was assigned a topic to organize the written materials and to prepare the initial draft.  After deliberation by the ad interim officers, the final draft was submitted to the office of Msgr. Mariano Balbago, Jr. Manila Archdiocesan Parochial Schools Association (MAPSA) Area Chairman.  However in consideration to subsequent legal constraints as matter of MAPSA policy, on 30 July 1994, the original incorporators were made Operating Officers.  The Board of Directors was composed of Bishop Protacio Gungon, D.D., Msgr. Mariano Balbago Jr., Msgr. Teodoro Perez, Fr. Julius Cesar Manalo and Fr. Marcelino Prudente.

As an off shoot of the discussion with MAPSA officers, on 23 October 1994, Fr. Prudente officially named the original Board of Incorporators or operating officers as members of the Administrative Council.  They served with genuine concern for the SNPS pupils, with unselfish commitment and without remuneration for services rendered.

The Sto Nino Parish School was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on 16 May 1996.  In response to the clamor of the parents, the SNPS started to offer the grade school education.

In the 29th year of  being Archbishop of Manila, His Eminence Jaime Cardinal Sin + recommended the creation of five (5) new dioceses from the original Archdiocese of Manila.  This proposal is a response to

the growing demand of fostering a more responsive pastoral care to the people of the Metropolis. The new dioceses  created are Novaliches, Paranaque, Cubao, Caloocan and our very own Diocese of Pasig.

On 21 August 2003 at 9:00 in the morning, the Rite of Liturgical Reception and Holy Eucharist were celebrated by His Eminence Jaime Cardinal Sin +, together with His Eminence Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, Archbishop of Cebu, His Excellency, Most Rev. Antonio Franco, D.D., Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines and other Bishops, for the Canonical Possession of the Diocese of Pasig and the Installation of Most Rev. Francisco C. San Diego, D.D.  + as the First Bishop of the Diocese of Pasig.

The Pasig Diocesan School System  (PaDSS)  was organized. It has twelve member schools and SNPS is one of them.  A Board of Trustees headed by the bishop became the policy making body of the school.  Together with other school directors as members, the PaDSS provides the SNPS with steadfast direction for Christian Catholic and Academic Formation.
